Started as a small leather workshop driven by a passion for craftsmanship. What began with a few handmade pieces has grown into a brand dedicated to creating timeless, high-quality leather goods with a personal touch.
Our Beginning
Born into a family of tanners in the Troy region of Turkey, Tanner Leatherstein grew up surrounded by the craft of leather. What started as childhood curiosity—tanning his first hides and making his own jacket that soon became a lifelong passion.
His obsession took him across five countries, even on a 40-hour bus ride through dangerous borders just to explore Pakistan’s leather markets. After earning an MBA and a brief stint in corporate life, he realized his true calling wasn’t behind a desk. He quit his job, drove for Uber to fund his dream, and launched a leather business from his apartment.
What began with a few Etsy listings quickly grew beyond what he could manage alone. With the help of his brother and wife, orders skyrocketed. Today, Atelier PEGAI is a thriving brand with passionate artisans and a global team dedicated to crafting high-quality leather goods—helping people make a statement and make a difference.
Our New Home
In July 2024, we embarked on a new chapter,
moving our workshop to Ubrique, Spain, a town renowned for its centuries-old leather craftsmanship.
This transition isn’t just about location; it’s about elevating our craft. With direct access to Europe’s finest tanneries, including Curtidos Badia, just steps from Tanner’s apartment—we’re embracing tradition while pushing creative boundaries. As Tanner puts it, “I’m taking on the challenge to design truly unique silhouettes, using the very best European leathers from the top luxury houses.” Ubrique is more than our new home, it’s the foundation for our boldest creations yet.
